This tutorial is about to show you how to configure your Vista Windows Mail in order to send and receive messages from your e-mail box.

To proceed with this tutorial you will need the following information from your mail service provider:

I. Incoming mail sever;

II. Outgoing mail server;

III. Email box username;

IV. Email box password;

V. Specific settings like SSL or port settings (These settings are optional and usually are provided by the service provider in your ‘welcome papers’).

.. then select account type to be ‘E-mail Account‘ and press next.

You will be asked for your full name. When you send e-mails from Windows Live Mail, your name will appear in the ‘From’ field of the outgoing message. Type your name as you would like to appear then proceed.

Then next field will be for your Internet E-mail Address which is the address other people use to send e-mail messages to you.

If you are not aware of it you have to gather that information from your mail service provider.

The next is very important section where you must set the email server type.
Currently the most popular method of receiving mails is trough POP3 server type.

Incoming mail server is usually ‘pop.domain-name.com‘, and the outgoing is ‘smtp.domain-name.com‘.

Because of the spammers this option ‘My server requires authentication’ is a must so check it.

Then click ‘Next’ to proceed with Windows Mail setup username and password setup.

Enter the credentials for Internet Mail Logon, set the password to be remembered and then you will have all the information required to set up your account.

Here you can leave this option ‘Do not download my e-mail at this time’ uncheck in case you do not need to make further management on your account.

When ‘Finish’ is pressed all the mails from your mail server will be fetched by Windows Mail.

In my case I need to change the port number and the security options, so I have checked the option and the mail client is not going to try to download messages.

When you click finish the Internet Accounts will appear. Locate your newly created one and click ‘Properties’.

The Account settings will appear and you can make changes or setting up different options.
Now in order to change the outgoing port number and to enable the SSL (secure) connection you must go to the ‘Advanced’ tab.

There set the port number as per your mail service provider requirements and select SSL if needed.

Click ‘OK’ and Close the next window.

Now the only thing is to click ‘Send/Receive’ in your Windows Mail at the top.
