VirtualBox Settings for a new OS installation

This tutorial will go trough the Sun Virtual Box Settings for a new OS installation which continues from Create a virtual machine with Sun Virtual Box where we finished with the steps of creating the parameters for the virtual box.
Now you should be at the Virtual Media Manager where you can boot your new machine, but before that you will need to install the new OS as on a real computer. You can do that either using CD/DVD ROM or ISO.

In my case I’ll use Debian installation ISO and I’ll add it manually to the virtual box as a device. The method will be the same if you are using regular CD/DVD device.

To edit the settings select your virtual machine and click ‘Settings’:

Choose ‘Storage’ at left which will open the ‘Storage Tree’ where under the IDE Controller you should choose an empty section, and then under the ‘Attributes’ section choose ‘Open Virtual Media Manager‘ for CD/DVD device:

Click on the ‘Add’ button to include in the list the preferred ISO for the Virtual machine.

Locate it on your hard drive or on the media you are using and add it.

Choose the ISO and then select it.

Then it will be shown instead of the empty IDE slot for the virtual box.

When you are ready click OK and then ‘Start’. This will turn on the virtual box and the installation process of the operating system will start.
All the rest of the steps will be as a normal operating system installation, including all the methods and issues that coming with.
